Tourism in Brunei refers to tourism in the Southeast Asian country Brunei.
The Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) of Brunei is planning to diversify tourism in Brunei to include adventure tourism, eco-tourism, and Islamic tourism.According to data published by Department of Economic Planning and Development, the number of tourist arrivals in Brunei was 78,436 in 2014, compared to 85,599 in 2013.
==Overview==
The Brunei dollar is one of strongest currencies in the ASEAN region, which is one factor discouraging tourists within the ASEAN region from visiting Brunei. One Brunei dollar is equal to around 9,740 Indonesian rupiah, 2.9 Malaysian ringgit, 32.9 Philippine pesos and 25.5 Thai baht. According to some travel agencies, because of the strong currency, tour packages in Brunei are costly compared to visits to other countries in the region, so local tourists prefer other ASEAN countries for tourism, though tourists from outside ASEAN prefer Brunei.
In 2014, 95% of the foreign tourists in Brunei came by land, 4% by air, and 1% by sea.
